How do I get rid of chickweed for good? Please help!!?

I have this dreadful weed in my garden (UK), which I think is chickweed. The leaves are small, and look like cress leaves. This stuff is low-lying, and covers everything it can. It has gradually taken over my garden. It chokes and swallows up everything I plant, and has invaded the lawn, the patio, even the walls.

Every year, we try to clear it. We try weedkiller, and digging it up, then putting new soil down, but it just comes back worse than ever. The whole garden is now affected. What can we do?

How do I get rid of chickweed for good? Please help!!?
Here in the UK chickweed is difficult to spray as it gets everywhere including round the plants we don't want to spray.

The best way I have found is to pull it up by hand - it comes up easily - before it seeds. It shouldn't then come up again. Our chickens love it.

Regards, Jim M
Reply:Without seeing the plant I don't know for sure if it is chickweed, but if it is then you ought to be able to kill and control it using a lawn weed killer. To be most effective the lawn should be sprayed in the spring when you first see signs of the weed. Then you should spray once a month to keep them out.

Good Luck.

Why are so many people so against weed when they don't know squat about it?

I used to smoke, don't anymore. I smoked my freshman year of college almost everyday and made a perfect 4.0 gpa. In other words, it never really affected me in any bad ways yet I hear all this propaganda from commercials and people (ie: my dad and people on yahoo answers) about how marijuana will ruin your life. Also, we're talking about WEED so please don't categorize and say DRUGS. All drugs are different. Anyway, I quit because I got bored of it and decided I like to think with a clear head, although getting high was once a lot of fun it lost its sacredness.

My dad smoked once and said all he got was a headache. Well, damn I sure as hell don't know what he smoked, but it was probably schwag or grass or something not weed. Anyway, tell me what's bad about it? I don't believe it causes cancer, maybe if you show me studies that say it does I'll believe it but so far studies show otherwise. I can see how it makes some people lazy and stupid but others like myself handle it just fine.

Why are so many people so against weed when they don't know squat about it?
The most common answer we're getting as to why people are so against cannabis is that it's illegal and makes people do bad things. But what disturbs me the most about that answer is that no one seems to be questioning WHY it is illegal. Slavery was legal in my states for decades, but did that make it right? So just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's morally right. And on the flip side, just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it's morally wrong. We should not simply accept whatever propaganda and statistics the government and groups with their own agendas spoon-fed to us. We need to do our own investigation, of the history that's not taught in school. I hope to shed some light on that with this essay I will be composing. I will be updating it as I go along. So here I begin with a current history of cannabis in the US (1900-current).

The Hearst family was very successful in their initial campaign against marijuana and hemp (which began early in the last century). They were so opposed to it because it would threaten the cotton industry, in which they were very heavily invested. This would influence the future of "pot" in America as we know it. So would the ambitions of a young man named Harry J. Anslinger. It also has a lot to do with how the government doesn't stand to profit from it. Pharmaceutical companies would also lose billions of dollars per year from the loss of sales in antidepressants (as marijuana has been known to help cure depression in some patients), anti-anxiety medications (cannabis is certainly an anxiolytic that relaxes the nerves and mind and eases worry, muscle relaxers (cannabis is one of the best muscle relaxers I use, if not THE best), painkillers (marijuana is quite effective in helping with pain, especially neuropathy, cancer pain, arthritis and allover muscular pain).

I will have to finish this tomorrow. I am falling asleep. You'll learn lots more about cannabis and it's magic then. :)
Reply:because its illegal, plain and simple, people reject what they fear and it can get you into legal trouble, so yeah
Reply:to me the majority of people in this country agree with you however the majority of people who agree do not vote and make the rules

the drug free america campaign is funded by tobacco and alcohol companies. If you do the research you will clearly find this out. They do not want you to use a drug that you can grow in a pot in your window for free. They want you to consume alcohol and tobacco and make them rich.

Also it is the people in charge who run prisons for profits. So they need to keep putting harmless people in jail to fund their private prisons. They get money from the government for each prisoner that they keep in their prison. If the prison was empty they do not get the money.

Then they make their prsoners do work for companies. Say fixing a road or making office equipment. SInce these prisoners do not work under minimum wage rules they can make wages of like 20 cents an hour and its all legal and the corporations that hire the prisoners are basically hiring cheap labor.
Reply:Yes, I agree, walking around all the time not thinking with a clear head (your own words by the way) is not a bad effect?!?! Cmon man, listen to yourself!! The reason it is so bad is the same reason alcohol and any other drugs are. Because people like you think they can "handle" it, so they get high, get in a car and end up killing some innocent soul!! I could care less if you stay at home and drink, smoke, snort, or shoot yourself into complete oblivion, but once you step out that door, you endanger others!! Ok, so you got away with it, good for you and thank God!! Just because you did though, doesn't make it right, or ok. I know people who were meth addicts who succeeded in many ways, doesn't make it good, or right. I know people who are prominent people in their communities and have great jobs that have shoplifted and stolen from people their whole lives without ever being caught. Doesn't make it right, or ok. Not to mention that it's illegal, not to mention that people get killed in the "dealings" of it everyday. I have a brother who smokes pot and he went to college, obtained his masters in education and his PHD in counseling. He spent 10 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to do this and 5 months into his career, he got busted for possession because he just couldn't quit doing it. Now, with this on his record, he will never be able to councel or teach children ever again. Like I said before, good for you for being one of the lucky ones and getting away with it. Unfortunately, you are in the huge minority when it comes down to it. Besides, if it's so fun and so uneffective on peoples lives than why would you ever quit doing it? You know your life is better off without it, otherwise you would've never stopped smoking it. Your reasoning would be like saying you quit having sex because you got bored of it. It makes absolutely no sense!! People just don't stop doing things that are enjoyable, healthy and good for them. It just doesn't happen!!
Reply:I, like you, used to smoke it, (for about 6 years!). Got bored and just plain tired of it. Also, the people I hung around with during that time were "going-nowhere" types and I eventually figured out I didn't want to follow that route! I kept my head, but they weren't interested in getting ahead in life. Smoking that stuff promoted nothing of interest to me, and finally... I HAD to move on and up! Pot won't take you up... anywhere!!! Plus, especially now, it's waaaaaay too expensive! What a waste of both money and life!
Reply:because they've seen the effects
Reply:I've been smoking for pot for 28 years and I have never had an issue with it but on the other hand some people who have an unidentified mental condition/ genetic or other wise it can cause grief to some.
Reply:You just answered your own question. It's because they don't know squat about it.
Reply:i am against weed. 100%. and yes i know all about it.

in your face.
Reply:Quite honestly weed an alcohol are merely different routes to same destination. Which is an escape from reality and ones problems.

What might set you apart from other people is you probably have a stronger will and/or drive to do things other than get high/drunk. Which is probably why you did so well in school.

My sister is an alcoholic and a pot head. She never graduated from high school and she now lives in Detriot and works 2 different waitressing jobs to get by and make ends meat. She told me she started experimenting with drugs when she was in her early teens and rather than deal with her problems that she was having at the time she chose to ran away from them by getting drunk and high and partying. Now i wouldn't go so far to say that her addiction is the root of all of her problems. but because she chose to ignore the problems in her life by getting high, she ended up in the position that she is in now which is living in relative poverty and scraping by to make ends meat.

What makes any drug usage a problem is that when people do them they sometimes forget to stop or they simply don't know how to stop. Not only does drug addiction add another problem it can soon grow to the point where it overshadows the root reason why you do drugs in the first place.
Reply:well other then taking years for the cumulative effect to hit you and actually modifying the genetic structure "screw up the dna of your sperm"

whats not to like? lite me up a bowl man!
Reply:weed does hurt you in th elong run. You become less effective(both mentally and physically) and have less money.
Reply:I never smoked pot once in my life (some allergic reaction or w/e to hemp (was tested as a baby for what my allergens were)), yet I still support it. Good luck with any fight you have about it
Reply:cause morons in today's society listens to everything their GOVERNMENT tells them.

like sheeps, nothing more different than sheeps really. government tells them this and they all believe, tells them that and they all believe.

typical dumb **** in today's society, abiding everything to the word "illegal", in their minds, if its illegal then it must be wrong. because the government would never harm you, the government is good, the government is right, and the government is honest.

dumb *****
Reply:Weed is a f#cking illegal drug and it can make you do bad things, now you do the math of why people are against it.

Weed can lead into even more Worse Drugs, my Brother started doing cocaine from weed and it landed him 15 years in prison. He was high when he shot and killed a guy..
Reply:i make a very good point but not everone is like you plus some is laced wit pcp witch can reallllyy make people go wack belive i have an aunt who smoked week and it was laced with it and she went to jail because of what she did alos when people dont handel it welllike my aunt its worse than alchol soo not everone is the same otherwise somek it uppp!
Reply:You are totally right but like you said it does make people lazy and stupid. Honestly it is just like cigarettes in my opinion. You smoke socially ar just to relax. I don't smoke myself but i used to. And the only reason it is so controversial is because certain people do have a problem with it and don't want to give it up and the people close to them are concerned. I am totally with you on the alcohol thing though. That screws up way more peoples lives than pot does. Hope my opinion was at least interesting.
Reply:It is illegal because it is easy to grow and obtain, The government wants their cut of everything because nothing is free.

I believe that some people need to do it and some don't because they can't handle it and act lame.

Like most thing their will always be people who abuse it, everything in moderation.

It can have bad effect on those who abuse it by robbing them of their ambitions and motivation but if you are an artist or musician then it can be very in lighting on a creativity level.
Reply:You basically said it, "ignorance".

It's the gov just trying to exercise its control, power, and morality on everyone.

What's even more ignorant is that people assume that all comes from the right-wing. It doesn't. Most of it is driven by the left-wing in actuality. (Try pushing legalization through the current Democrat majority in congress and see how far it gets.)

I say this because the only way it will ever be changed is to elect a Congress that embraces freedom and less government, and maybe the time for a real Libertarian movement is at hand (especially given the prospects this election cycle).
Reply:Well Xavier did make one valuable point, it does cost money. But that isn't the governments fault, that is because it is illegal and therefore more expensive. I have only smoked since I was 23 and am now 61. I am a self-employed contractor with nine different trades I market daily. Prior to smoking I worked in factories with dead end chances of improvement. So, to you that feel it is that bad,... you are misinformed. Question everything.
Reply:Weed can be addictive, and can cause depression if used for a long period of time. It also impairs judgment, and is, oh yea, illegal.

What was my weed laced with?

It was my first time smoking weed and i think it was laced. i dont know what it was though. I only had 3 hits out of a bong.

here's what happened:

--loss of movement - i felt like i couldnt move my body because i was completely weak. and when i did, it took alot of effort and made me exhausted.

--i could not talk or move my mouth. this took too much effort as well

--however, my head was completely clear and "sober". it was as if i wasnt high at all. i knew everything that was happening.

--my muscles in my arms felt like they were twitching but it wasnt visible.

--my hair is long but i felt like it was up to my ears! it was a wierd, singed feeling

--throbbing head when eyes closed

--extremely dry mouth and throat

no hallucinations. no feelings of euphoria. my mind was normal. i felt normal. its just that my body felt bad. nothing hurt, but it was uncomfortable.

does anyone know what it was laced with?

What was my weed laced with?
sounds like it was just really strong
Reply:Hmmmm, It might have been laced with PCP (Angel dust). You didn't feel the full affects of it because you only had three hits. PCP is what weed is normally laced with, but it could have something else.

Hopefully your next time wont be so strange.
Reply:The question you should be asking is not what it was laced with...Rather. why would anyone choose to smoke this crap??

I hope your first experience deters you from doing it again.
Reply:Sounds like "fry"

its becoming more and more common these days, sadly.

The weed is laced with embalmbing fluid and it can have many effects on you.

Usually it depends on how much you smoked and out of what.

If you smoke a whole joint or blunt to yourself it can render you psychotic.

But just afew hits out of a bowl and you are paralyzed and confused and not sure what is going on for a few hours.

Can weed destroy your ability to trust anyone?

i've had my fair share of doing drugs but weed seemed to always though not in the beginning) make me paranoid. i would think critically and analyze things. i thought it gave me a more clear perception on how life works. but it also made me distrust and doubt every thing. sometimes i knew it was silly and that it was only the usual paranoia when stoned but i think on the long term it has affected my ability to trust people even the closest to me. i misunderstand what people say and feel like there's always another meaning to what people say or do a "hidden" meaning.

i haven't done drugs for more than five years now and i still have trust issues.

what should i do???

Can weed destroy your ability to trust anyone?
Weed does give you a sense of paranoia but it goes away once yor high goes down fully. I wouldnt blame your trust issues on the weed. Maybe you need to check yourself and the ppl you have a distrust for.
Reply:Actually, I don't think there is any clear cut evidence that says (as someone else answered) "weed has long lasting effects, including the ability to trust others." (I think he just wanted to sound smart). I actually think that scientists suspect that marijuana can have long term effects on the brain but they aren't exactly sure what they are. (Don't quote me on this though. You might want to do some research online). Still, I seriously doubt that your trust issues come from weed.
Reply:ye sit is well documented by professionals that it has long lasting effects ( often permanent) on the mind.

one of which is paranoia and mistrust of others.
Reply:It my not be drugs. You may have trust issues dating back to childhood.Talk to someone before you try rehab. You can also stop talking to people all together and just be mute and stay in your house and be a hermit,I kid!
Reply:Seek professional help, any type of mood altering drug can have life long effects. sorry that you may have had to learn the hard way.
Reply:sure. it can make you paranoid! I suggest rehab! :)

My boyfriend's on weed! HELP!?

This guy I'm dating has been on weed for a really long time!! He says he can't stop and he even does it alone. He calls me often and verbally abuses himself. He has some important exams to clear this month which he needs little preparation for but his lifestyle is just not helping! I'm helpless, what do I do?

My boyfriend's on weed! HELP!?
relax. a friend of mine told me that he new this guy that was a major pot head and aced his exams.

just try not to think about him and his weed problem. help him study for this exam and he will get it through his head.

you should try and help him quit because of the verbal abuse. it sounds like to me he doesnt even use wee for fun he uses it to releive stress. find out whats stressing him out so much and help him with it. tell him that you worry about this and you care about him. if he cared about you, he would understand and try to quit.

Can a video film or footage considered admissable in the court of law?

What for example one hubbyist of a videocam started to take video of the a passage in one downtown suburb at night in his hotel room, filming people passing by in one of the dimly lighted street then sudden he saw a woman being maul, beaten and rob by two men, but by zooming diligently with the camera he has clear picture of the two perpetrators.

Now the question- Is this considered admissable in the crime of robbery if he will present this in court? Because some lawyers if he happens to defend the two guys would tell the judge that this is clearly a manifestation violation of the rights of the accuse. Is this true? Because the video tapes clearly state the two men who are his client who robbed a woman downtown are already guilty therefore no need to present witness or evidence to prove that they are innocent of the said charges. Which is against the provision of any accuse or violation of the constitution. Is this correct?

stop smoking weeds when u answer this.

Can a video film or footage considered admissable in the court of law?
The law is funny about cameras and videos. Actually, the video is not "the" evidence. Except in administrative proceedings (traffic tickets for the most part), the evidence is the testimony of an eyewitness.

Q. Were you at x dimly lit street on Y date at Z o'clock.

A. Yes.

Q. Did you observe something happening?

A. Yes, I saw D beating the bejeezus out of V.

Q. Did you have a video camera with you?

A. Yes, and I videotaped the beating.

Other lawyer: Your honor, I request a voir dire of the tape.

Judge clears the jury out of the courtroom for voir dire, shows the videotaped images to the witness.

Q. Is the videotaped image a fair and accurate representation of what you saw?

A. Yes.

I offer the videotape in evidence.

After the judge decides that the videotape is relevant the case and not overly prejudicial, the jury comes back in and the tape is re-played and the witness repeats that then video shows what he saw.

You can't cross-examine a videotape. The "evidence" is the witness saying that he saw what the tape shows. The footage is just demonstrative of the witness' testimony.
Reply:Apparently so. This United States Supreme Court case included a video in the slip opinion. This is the first time by the way, that a video has been introduced as part of a Supreme Court opinion.

And scroll down to "Scott v. Harris" an 04-30-07 case.

Here is the PDF link: http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/0...

You will need Adobe Acrobat reader for the text.

You will need "Real Player" if you want to watch the video.
Reply:Had you discontinued taking Valium when before asked?

Anyways, it depends on the country.

Some use routine observation of public places,

if you want a strict privacy, simply stay at home.
Reply:It's the same as if a security camera in a parking lot captures a crime. It can be presented as evidence. The have a whole group of people in LA called cop-watch that goes around video taping arrests after the King trial. It's not against the law, although not everyone especially the criminally minded want to have their faces appear on tape.

Realllly worried here. This is about marijuana/pot/weed. NEED HELP.?

Ok so I've been on probation for the past 9 months about, since April 24th last year. I haven't smoked since then and my system was completely cleaned out until yesterday. I took one hit(it wasn't even a full inhalation, maybe only a half of one or something) off of the bowl of some blueberry (good ******* weed) and I got really ****** up. I didn't expect to get so high because it was just one hit but I was messed up for hours. Anyways, I have a drug test either tomorrow or Thursday and I'm drinking a lot of water but I'm worried if I will pass or not. The guy I was hanging out with said he managed to clear an 1/8 out of his system in three days to pass a test ...I'm 5'2" and I weigh 165 lbs. or so, so I'm chubby and I don't know if that'll mess up my chances because I have extra fat? What should I do? I can overload myself with vitamins and drink a lot of water but I can only do so much!!! Any advice/help etc... ?

Realllly worried here. This is about marijuana/pot/weed. NEED HELP.?
I love Blueberry yum yum! Anyway...they sell different kinds of things to clean out your system overnight...mostly at head shops. Go to a pharmacy and ask someone, they should be able to help you. Good Luck, i hope you don't pee dirty!
Reply:Drug test can detect the h e l l out of the least little bit especially if your alittle chunky. I've been told by a pharmacist that the key is drinking alot of water and knowing when your test will be administered. The longer the urine sits in the bladder, the more THC that will be detected. If you pee often and try to make sure you take your test within a 5-10 minute period after your last urination, you should be OK. I'm also told that depending on how they test it, if it's sent to a lab, etc, they can detect the detox liquids that are available. I'm chunky also and just failed one after trying all of the above, but I'm a regular smoker.I've been told pickle juice, vinegar, sure -gel, goldenseal are all forms of flushing that have been successful. GOOD LUCK!!
Reply:You can probly stop drinking all the excessive water so you don't hurt yourself. Don't load up on vitamins that will mess you up to. Try some tomato soup tonight and some v8 juice and tea. You should be ok if it was just one hit. Don't go around it anymore because you can get second hand high too.
Reply:Yeah dude, you do not have much to worry about, if it was only one rip. But to be clear, you should drink a host of vinegar every night before going to bed, the vinegar will help to pull any THC out of your blood, or at least modify it so that it is not recognizeable by the test. On top of that drink a lot of water, especially the day of the test so that you have such a high quantity of water in your system that the THC will be more dilute.
Reply:Cranberry juice helps, but in so little time go to the closest phrmacy and get the cleaner, it is a complete cleaner of the body, u gonna dring it and it will clean ur body out and u will pass the test.
Reply:Sounds like you're gonna fail it! Sorry. Guess you should have held out a few days longer!
Reply:There is a product called Golden Seal. It is tablets you can get at GNC or other vitamin/health and nutrition stores. It absolutely 100% works. My friend was on probation and was tested every month and continued to smoke and use Golden Seal and he never failed.

Good Luck!!
Reply:there is no way of knowing for sure....you were clean for 9 months...what a shame you took one hit. you obviously know THC is stored in fat cells and if you test is tommorow there is a 50/50 chance you will fail. drinking water will not make much difference, expect maybe dilute your urine, in which case, your test will be suspect and they will either make you repeat the test or pass you over....depends on the company. Have to add....just read another response...saying "you were just around it".....not a good idea......not possible to test positive by osmosis.....they aren't that stupid.
Reply:sorry bud

can't help u

u were doing so well

why did u risk it?
Reply:Drink a 1-Gallon Gatorade.............Try to pee alot too.

Can't say I blame you......After all, it was blueberry.
Reply:one hit, if your system is completely clean, would most likely not cause a positive test for marijuana 24 hrs later. 48 hrs and you really have nothing to worry about.
Reply:Sorry - but marijuana can be detectable for up to 30 days and contrary to urban legends there is nothing you can take.

My advice? Own up to the use and COMMIT finally to NEVER using again. Do you need a Mack truck to run over you?
Reply:I'm not going to give you advice on whether to tell your probation officer or not. You screwed up but I guess you know that by now. I hope you've learned your lesson because it's not worth ruining your life just to get high.

I used to be a drug tester....

THC does stay in your body for about 30 days. Various factors such as body weight and race will affect exactly how long. Most urine tests are done on a threshhold basis - you have to have a certain level of the chemical in your body to test positive. You should be ok, but this is not the time to rely on "should be's". Go to a local headshop and purchase a THC take home test. They're pretty good and you'll know for sure within 10 minutes. Don't waste your money on detox products, rgardless of what others may claim they DO NOT work. Trust me. You can dilute your urine by drinkings lots of fluids the day of test so that the sample you provide will be diluted and thus have a lower concentration of THC in it. Don't overdue though because that's a big red flag. You can also purchase synthetic urine which does work; note that it is illegal to sell a product such as this for the purpose of cheating a drug test. It is legal to sell it for "personal health reasons". If you are not directly observed while donating your sample you could probably get away with this.
Reply:Drink pedialyte. That also helps flush out your system. Really half a hit should barely show up on their radar *IF* that's all you did. You can even say you were just around it. However, drink pedialyte. That helps a lot. Anything that makes you go to the bathroom a lot.
Reply:You need to find some friends who don't do drugs so you aren't tempted in the future.

The weed will probably show up in your test. Tell them the truth, and stop using.
