Hi my fish are dying 1 by 1,they are spending alot of time on top of the pool,i have noticed some have a f?

fungus on them and some have white spots on them, the pool is gravity fed filter system which appears to be working fine, the pool is 5ft x 8ft and is 5ft deep it was originally dug to keep koi but has a number of other species in now,the pool is drained from the bottom and gravity pushes the water and debris straight to the drain(manhole).the pond has alot of blanket weed and the water is no longer clear due to algea build up,please can anyone give me any suggestions to what is killing my fish and how i can cure this problem, many thanks

Hi my fish are dying 1 by 1,they are spending alot of time on top of the pool,i have noticed some have a f?
where do i start first thing i would do is work down a check list

1. do a pH test the water should be between 6.5 and 7.5

2. do a test for ammonia it should tell you on the box how to use it so i wont go into to much detail their.

3. you say your fish are at the top allot they are probably gasping for air and my advice is to invest in either some oxygenating plants which would be a cheaper option or if you want a more here and now approach invest in a pond air pump I have a blagdon 65 koi air does the job a treat.

4. remove as much blanket weed as you can you don't want that in your pond you can remove it by hand the are tools you can use or like before if you don't mind splashing you cash for the sake of you fish bye an I-Tronic this is suppose to eliminate blanket weed as for you fish If my memory serves me right whit spot is a bacterial infection my advice would be to separate you fish into two separate mini ponds as i believe they require different treatments your best asking an aquatic centre which ones but i know that you can't mix the two as they become toxic and both council each other out.

P.s sorry can't be of any more help and i hope that you don't lose to Meany fish Good luck with the treatment!.
Reply:I thoink the diferent species of fish you have there in the tank need some tropical waters. You should provide a heater. I would aslo add some medications (DO NOT OVER DOSE) over dosing can kill a fish!!!!
Reply:Hi,go to www.fishcrazy.co.uk it is a forum you will get the best advice going.Good Luck
Reply:use a pond salt and this will help treat the fungus and the white spots on the fish then go to an aquatic centre and buy some barley straw extract this will help with the blacket weed, you can also try a water change about 30% using either a pond vac or you empty system you have this will help with the nitre levels and will eventually hopfully lower the levels of algae in the pond.

hope this is of some help
Reply:sozzy i cant help i had this problem i had to say good bye to goldy 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and more. sorry good luck xxxx
Reply:you cant put a fish in a pool retard !
Reply:I think adding a little salt will help about tsp per 10 gallons helps cure fungus in freshwater fish
Reply:Treat for parasites first then treat for bacteria and fugus. Fungus is a secondary infection, you have to eliminate the original problem first. If parasites then you get a bacterial infection then fungus. SO you must begin with the parasite. Anti-biotic food and a good water change will help. You must change water even with a good filter.
Reply:you obviously have an overabundance of alge which can make them sick. Also...waht species have you introduced with teh koi and where did they come from? It could also be that some fish you put in there was diseased to begin with.
