Rototilling question?

What is the best way to clear grass and weeds from an area after it has been rototilled?

Rototilling question?
Just good ole fashion hard work. Start with a Bow rake, rake up the big stuff, then get down on your hand and knees and pick up what's left.
Reply:You have too understand that rototilling is only a good solution to air-ating the dirt-not breaking away grass and weeds. Yes ,rototillers are good for disrupting weed growths-allong established paths, that you establish as access paths to your plantings. You must choose where you will plant and where you must walk to access these plantings. Good ,old fashioned hard work, with a cloth to hold /carry away what you pull-up, is the most efficient use of your energy. Dispose of the weeds into a 5-gln bucket that you can tightly lid. A bar of lye-soap in some water, will wreck them for sure, and not be a health hazard to anyone.
Reply:I found the easiest way was to remove it before tilling! I used a sharpened flat shovel (forgot the name) to under cut the grass root and put it in a compost pile. Then tilled the soil.

If you've already tilled it, racking will remove some of it but probably not all. If you've enough time to wait, you could water the soil, then cover it in heavy black plastic. The heat build up would probably kill the remaining grass as well as get rid of nematodes.

Good luck!
