Hi i need some help translating this poem into something easier to understand. I have already tried for a few hours but i just can't do it. Even if you don't really know the whole thing i would like you to tell me because it might help me figure out other parts of the poem. Thank you!
Night
by Louise Bogan
The Cold remote islands
And the blue estuaries
Where what breathes, breathes
The restless wind of the inlets
And what drinks, drinks
The incoming tide;
Where shell and weed
Wait upon the salt wash of the sea,
And the clear nights of stars
Swing their lights westward
To set behind the land;
Where the clinging to the rocks
Renews itself forever;
Where, again on cloudless nights,
The water reflects
the firmament's partial setting;
-O remember
In your narrowing dark hours
That more things move
Than blood in the heart.
Thank You!!!
Please help me translate this poem into easy to understand english?
I t seemed to me the author was talking about the ebb and flow of life--so if u focus on that concept maybe something will come to mind--But I could be completely crazy--or lost in my own beliefs and if I am I'm still alive, and for that I am relieved.
Reply:"The Cold remote islands

This means the fauna lives and breathes without our awareness or caring.
Where shell and weed
Wait upon the salt wash of the sea,
And the clear nights of stars
Swing their lights westward
To set behind the land;
This means the flora and fauna exist together on the East Coast, but I can't see how or why that would make or change the meaning of the verse.
Where the clinging to the rocks
Renews itself forever;
Where, again on cloudless nights,
The water reflects
the firmament's partial setting;
This one isn't clear to me, try to figure it out yourself, sorry.
-O remember
In your narrowing dark hours
That more things move
Than blood in the heart.
your narrowing dark hours has to mean your end on this planet and yours, mine nor any ones death will stop the rest of the world from living and or existing.
Hope this helps,
MS
Reply:The islands are in the middle of nowhere and are hostile
And in the blue ends of the rivers in which it takes on the ongoing wind of the inlets
And it flows the incoming tide
Where organisms of the ocean wait upon the sea
and the stars "move" westward to set behind the land
Where the rocks renew themselves (i think it means erosion)
Where on clear nights the water reflects the sky's partial setting
Remember that in your last hours of life
That there is more to life than just your blood.
Reply:What is this saying? I think it's telling of a place where someone is living their last moments. Near a sea shore, at night.
Is that what you need?
Reply:The theme of the poem is the relation of the rythems of elemental nature to the rythems of life. It speaks of the combination of air, water, heaven, and earth, being observed as a reflection of the state of the observer. By considering this correlation, the observer is brought into realizing harmony with these forces. By remembering in "dark hours" this same harmony, the obeserver trancends the fear of oblivion in death.
