Do I have to clear out the tree leaves from last fall? Pull out the weeds? Plant before or after I lay the mulch? I know I have to water the ground before and after laying down mulch, right?

Yes pull weeds. Yes, water the soil. Then, plant your plants then water again. After that, I would lay down a protective sheet of material to further the length of time between weeding. If weeding is done properly adding this sheet may keep you from getting any weeds for a long while. Ask the personnel in the store where you purchased the mulch they will know exaclty what it is. After all this, put down a generous amount of mulch. Oh, and yes it is best to clear all brush and leaves before putting in new mulch, to make sure there are no unwantd seeds etc. and because it ends up looking better too.

Reply:Pull all weeds, lay out some weed-gard (found at an ACE hardware store or Wal-mart), then simply lay out the mulch
