Can anyone tell me how much it would cost me to hire a gardener to fix my garden in UK?

I have a small garden (10 meters long, 4 meters wide) and it's a mess. Full of weed and random stuff. The task of doing it myself is scary. Could anyone advise me how much it would roughly cost me to hire gardening services just to clear it up and put it usable. I live London, UK.

Do not waste your money hiring a company to clear it. You do not need trained/qualified people to clear a garden just muscle. As long as you can oversee what is done try hiring college/uni students. They will work for much less and do just as good a job.

It is a shame you do not live closer or I would sort this out for you. I often get called in after so called 'Landscapers' or 'Gardening Services' completely mess up a garden and charge a fortune for doing so.

In a lot of cases these people set themselves up with a van and a few tools without any idea at all of what they are doing.

EDIT...Sodium chlorate is so toxic you would not be able to plant ANYTHING for at least 6 months. It should only ever be used on waste ground or paths etc. where nothing is going to be planted. I never use it.
Reply:I live in the North of England and charge £25 per hour. Firstly, you being in London I would guess someone is going to charge you between £30 and £40 per hour. Secondly, your garden sounds like it's in a bad way and could take a good few days minimum depending on what you want doing with it. There are a couple of options available to you. Hire a gardener, a general handyman for clearance work (which may be slightly cheaper) or clear it yourself. You could apply weedkillers to kill everything which would give you like a blank canvas to start from and re-build your garden, but there will still be some clearing work to do and dependant on the weedkiller you use you may have to keep children %26amp; pets away from the garden for some time. Before anyone says that you can get weedkillers that are pet friendly, yes you can, but they are not as good as say Sodium Chlorate which will pretty much kill everything it touches but is highly poisonous to children and pets.
Reply:Why not have a garden clearance party!

Invite some friends over for the day and tell them you will supply drink and food. Buy a couple of disposible BBQs from the supermarket and a few bits of chicken etc(the boys will love to cook on it - its a guy thing)

Hopefully someone will have a van or big car to take the waste to the tip. Maybe you can pre order some turf to put down (£75-£100) or seed an area for a lawn(£10)

Once it is clear hire a local gardener to come for an hour or 2 once a month to get it established.
Reply:About £15ph in London.Try your community pages for your area.If you live near cricklewood get someone from eastern europe, who stand on the side of the road looking for work.£60per day.Your local garden centre will have a list of recommended gardeners, but say what is involved and min cost, otherwises they might send round a designer
Reply:Su,

Look in your local area newspaper. Gardeners, handymen and general labourers advertise in these papers and ususally quote their rates. Try and pick one that someone you know has used.

Good luck

Badco.
Reply:get a one man band type of guy--you might find one for £15 per hour
